The Banker’s Top 1000 World Banks ranking for 2014 shows that, at 5.86%, the global aggregate capital-to-assets ratio is at a historic high.

According to The Banker’s Top 1000 World Banks ranking for 2014, the aggregate capital-to-assets ratio in the 2013 financial year enjoyed its largest rise since the emergency bail-outs and recapitalisations that showed up in the 2009 figures. The aggregate ratio as of the end of 2013 was 5.86%. In 1971, the first year for which The Banker compiled data for assets and capital plus reserves in what was then the top 300 banks ranking, the aggregate capital-to-assets ratio for the top 10 banks was 4.53%.
