National exchanges are no longer natural monopolies, with visible and dark liquidity now fragmented across multiple venues. As a result, we exist in a world of trading robot wars. By virtue of their internal resources, banks would be expected to operate well in these increasingly challenging conditions. But they are no long calling the shots. New entrants to the trading game are driving radical changes in market structure.
