Awards 2008

After five years of banking boom the global credit crisis hit hard in 2008 and banks across the globe felt the impact. But despite the financial turmoil many institutions managed creditable performances and record results. Throughout 2008 The Banker recognised the top performers.

With the start of the credit crunch and changes on the horizon, The Banker strives to identify and recognise the top performers worldwide. With more focus on innovation and emerging markets, this year’s awards identifies some strong performances over the course of 2007

The Banker Awards 2006

In November the ceremony was held for The Banker Awards 2006 at The Dorchester Hotel in London. This year we gave awards in 137 countries and more than 100 countries were represented on the night.

2005

The Banker Awards 2005

Bankers representing institutions from over 80 countries celebrated The Banker Awards 2005, the highlight of the global banking calendar, on September 6 at the Dorchester Hotel in London. The Awards, sponsored by BT, covered 177 Bracken awards – named after The Banker’s founding editor, Brendan Bracken. These Brackens were awarded to the Bank of the Year in each of the record 138 countries along with banks in 31 investment banking categories, eight regions and two special categories. Global Bank of the Year was HSBC.

2004

The Banker Awards 2004

The Banker’s Bank of the Year Awards this year reflect a bumper year for profits, as many banks have posted record earnings in 2003 and continue to improve in the first half of 2004. While the global economic recovery remains unsteady and the political environment uncertain, aggregate profits in our Top 1000 listing in July reached record highs, up 65.4% on the previous year.

Attendees at The Banker’s glittering awards ceremony, which was compered by BBC presenter John Humphrys, were treated to a keynote address on the global economy by Charles Dallara, managing director of Washington’s Institute of International Finance. And The Banker team which made it all possible.
