Mark Shafir, managing partner and Serena Williams, senior advisor – Consello Group

Consello Group, a recently established financial services advisory and strategic investing firm that has been rapidly growing since its inception last year, has brought on board veteran Citigroup executive Mark Shafir and tennis champion Serena Williams. 

Mr Shafir will join the New York-based firm as managing partner of its mergers and acquisitions (M&A) advisory and investment banking business. He was most recently co-head of global mergers and acquisitions at Citigroup. 

Ms Williams, a 23-time grand slam tennis champion and venture capitalist will serve as a senior advisor, working with clients and portfolio companies on various strategic matters, the firm said in a press statement. She becomes the third renowned athlete to join Consello Group, following the additions of former National Football League star Tom Brady and former National Basketball Association star Pau Gasol last year.

Consello was founded by Declan Kelly, who previously served as the chief executive of advisory firm Teneo until 2021. The firm offers its clients M&A advisory and investment banking, growth and business development, investing, and digital assets advisory services. With offices located in New York, London and Miami, the firm has expanded its team to comprise more than 75 employees and advisers.

Scott McDavid, global head of equities and Ronnie Wexler, global head of equities distribution – Barclays

Barclays has appointed former Morgan Stanley executive Scott McDavid to lead its equities business. He will join the bank as its new global head of equities in September, reporting to Adeel Khan, co-head of global markets.

Mr McDavid spent 18 years at Morgan Stanley, most recently as co-head of its equities trading business in the Americas. He previously worked at trading firm Susquehanna Investment Group in equity derivatives.

In addition, Ronnie Wexler joins the bank as global head of equities distribution. Mr Wexler joins Barclays from bitcoin firm NYDIG, where he served as head of distribution. Prior to that, he spent 19 years at Goldman Sachs, culminating in his role as partner and co-head of Americas equities distribution and execution.

Edward Cheng

Edward Wai Sun Cheng, independent non-executive director – HSBC

HSBC has appointed Edward Wai Sun Cheng as an independent non-executive director. Mr Cheng brings more than 37 years of experience gained at some of the largest corporations in Asia. He currently serves as deputy chairman and chief executive of Wing Tai Properties and chairman of Lanson Place Hospitality Management. 

Prior to that, he held executive roles at Hutchison Whampoa and Wharf Holdings, in which he focused on their China and US business development. He also served as an independent non-executive director at Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) and was previously a non-executive director at the Securities and Futures Commission in Hong Kong.

Halila Mazin

Halila Mazin, fixed income sales – KNG Securities

KNG Securities, a London-based fixed income investment banking boutique, has appointed former Barclays distressed and emerging markets debt expert Halila Mazin in a fixed income sales role within its credit trading team.

He joins the firm with more than 20 years of experience in credit sales. He previously spent 15 years at Barclays Capital, the investment banking arm of Barclays, where he focused on credit markets. 

Mr Mazin’s appointment follows the recent hires of Turkish fixed income expert Cagri Kutman, CIS specialist Igor Nartov, Latin America specialist Christian Laloe and former Goldman Sachs distressed debt analyst Andrew Lee, as the firm continues to bolster its presence in the emerging markets space.
