Global demand for alternative desktop technologies is threatening Microsoft’s monopoly in the market. Allied Irish Bank is the latest to select Sun Microsystem’s Java Desktop System.

The bank will migrate 7500 desktop users and transition branch dependent applications across its entire branch network to Sun’s Java Desktop System.

The agreement, in collaboration with Horizon Open Systems, is the largest financial services enterprise deal for the Java Desktop System, a comprehensive and secure desktop solution, since its availability in December 2003.

“The global momentum for the Java Desktop System continues at a rapid pace because of its affordability, enhanced security and manageability, and interoperability,” says Curtis Sasaki, vice-president, desktop solutions, Sun Microsystems.
