The UK’s Coventry Building Society has confirmed its £780mn acquisition of The Co-operative Bank, with the transaction expected to conclude in the first quarter of 2025, the two companies said in a joint statement on Friday. 

The merger will result in a combined entity with a balance sheet of £89bn as of December 31, the companies said, creating the seventh-largest retail bank in the UK as well as returning Co-op Bank to mutual ownership.
