South African banks retain their clear lead in the Africa rankings, despite the problems posed by the country's dismal economic growth and subsequent rand volatility. Nigerian banks have kept their heads above the water during a damaging oil price slide, and Moroccan lenders have consolidated their position near the top of the rankings despite regional instability.
