The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision has launched a consultation on guidelines to help financial institutions manage counterparty credit risk and curb “long-standing industry weaknesses”. 

The committee said that the new guidelines should encourage banks to improve their CCR management practices, especially in cases of high-risk exposure to non-bank financial institutions, and would replace its existing practices for dealing with highly leveraged institutions, which was published in 1999.
