Deutsche Bank has appointed veteran financial crime specialist Patricia Sullivan to global head of institutional cash management (ICM). She will be based in New York and report to David Lynne, head of the corporate bank.

Ms Sullivan joined Deutsche Bank in 2021 and built a unit within its corporate and investment bank focused on financial crime and compliance risk management. She has more than 15 years’ experience at major European banks, including Standard Chartered and UBS.

She succeeds Daniel Schmand, who after a career spanning more than 36 years will retire in January from his dual role as global head of ICM and global head of corporate bank and branch operations. 

In addition, Tsvetanka Nankova will assume the role of global head of sales for ICM and trade finance for financial institutions. She will be based in Frankfurt and report to Ms Sullivan. Ms Nankova joined Deutsche Bank in 2016 from Wells Fargo where she spent nine years in lead financial institutions sales roles. Most recently, she served as chief of staff and head of corporate development for its corporate bank.

Standard Chartered has appointed former Citi banker Stella Choe to lead its coverage of global subsidiaries. She will be based in Singapore. 

Ms Choe has more than 25 years of industry experience, most recently as Citi’s head of global network banking for the Asia-Pacific region. Prior to that, she accrued experience within the corporate management, loan syndications, global subsidiaries and financial institutions businesses at JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley and HSBC. 

She has also worked at the United Nations and other international organisations in Geneva, Brussels and Bangkok.

Naohiko Baba, chief Japan economist and head of Japan research – Barclays

Barclays has appointed senior dealmaker Ryan Voegeli as head of investment banking for Canada. Mr Voegeli brings 20 years of investment banking experience, and joins Barclays from CIBC Capital Markets, where he was head of global diversified industries investment banking. Prior to joining CIBC in 2011, Mr Voegeli was head of Canadian telecom, media and technology investment banking at Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

In addition, Naohiko Baba, former chief Japan economist at Goldman Sachs, has joined Barclays to lead its Japan macroeconomic research unit within the bank’s Japanese securities business. 

With more than 30 years of industry experience, Mr Baba is well-versed in Japan’s economy, particularly its monetary policy. This expertise is important for Barclays’ institutional clients as they navigate an anticipated shift in the Japanese economy, expected to significantly affect their strategies. He previously served at Goldman Sachs for 13 years and held various roles at the Bank of Japan and the Bank for International Settlements in Switzerland.
