Forget SMS (short message service), IDBI Bank has gone more high tech with MMS (multi-media message). Embracing the latest mobile phone technology, the bank is allowing all customers to download maps pinpointing the location of their nearest cash machine. Customers will need an MMS-enabled mobile phone and a GSM Data or GPRS enabled SIM card.
IDBI bank’s CEO and MD, Gunit Chadha, commented: “This service is one of the first examples of using MMS in a business-to-consumer environment. We’re deploying the technology to deliver a really useful service that is available, not only to IDBI bank customers, but to any debit and credit card holder to easily locate the nearest ATM.”
The technology underlying the new service is the NOW Wireless SMS/MMS Gateway from NOW International. The advantage of the software is that it offers an operator-independent solution that supports both SMS and MMS connectivity.
