European AT1 issuance still recovering, says report

European banks issued €4.56bn of AT1s in the first quarter of this year, compared to €9.30bn for the same period in 2023

The collapse of Credit Suisse, which led to the unexpected write-off of its AT1 bonds, is continuing to have a negative effect on the market.

AT1 issuance began to recover from the third quarter of last year and is currently on track to return to pre-writedown issuance levels, according to the latest Prudential Data Report published this week by the Association for Financial Markets in Europe.
