1. What makes your country attractive to investors?

Interest from foreign investors has increased considerably since Latvia’s accession to the EU. Due partly to its prime geographic location, Latvia has become the main business centre of the region. The ability to work with other countries, knowledge of their languages and the willingness of its people to gain new skills are just some of the important characteristics of the Latvian business environment.

2. What are the economic prospects for your country over the next three to five years?

At present, there is strong growth in all the main sectors of the economy: finance, manufacturing, agriculture and IT. This, allied with increased interest from investors, is an important pre-requisite for Latvia’s future economic growth.

3. How do you foresee the financial sector in your country changing?

Latvia today is a significant, regional financial centre. We therefore anticipate that the financial sector will continue to develop by utilising resources attracted from Western partners. Competition in our key markets – corporate, lending and retail banking – will become more rigorous.

4. What role will your bank play in your country’s future development?

Lateko Banka is actively developing its retail banking business, and our aim is to become one of the top five Latvian banks. The benefits gained from an extensive branch network and the provision of high-tech services will enable the bank to consolidate its position in this sector.
