Mobiasbanca

The words “consistently strong” are the best way to sum up Mobiasbanca’s performance in 2002, and this has enabled it to win the award for Moldova.

As in the previous two years, the bank raised net profit about 100% in 2002. Its ROE and cost-to-income ratio, at 21.9% and 57% respectively, were near the levels for 2001 and 2000.

Beyond strong performance in recent years, the bank has steadily increased its share of Moldova’s banking market, reaching almost 6% at the end of 2002. Its enlargement and upgrade of retail banking operations was a crucial factor behind this growth.

As part of this successful strategy, the bank has helped to develop Moldova’s burgeoning credit card industry. In 2002, it became one of the few banks in the country to join the international payment scheme Europay International, giving its customers access to Master Card and Cirrus/Maestro credit cards.

Mobiasbanca also continued its co-operation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in the area of trade finance, which was much to the benefit of Moldova’s exporting firms.
