In the aftermath of the Turkish general election on June 7, in which the country's ruling party lost its majority for the first time in 13 years, raising questions over the country’s economic future, The Banker has assessed the local banks by Tier 1 capital.
The ranking shows Turkiye Is Bankasi as the best capitalised lender in the country, with Tier 1 capital of $13.59bn. At $118.82bn, the bank is also the largest local bank by assets, although it is less profitable than some of its peers. In 2014, Turkiye Is Banaksi earned $2.04bn in profits, making it the third most profitable lender in the country.
