Savings Bank of Albania

Savings Bank of Albania has won the award after remaining profitable in a difficult year in 2002 and making important technological refinements.

Despite a decline in net profit that resulted from the difficult environment, the bank achieved a return on equity (ROE) of 39.4% for 2002. Its Tier 1 capital rose 6.6%.

On a network of 250 computer terminals, the bank launched a new programme called SIB 2000, enabling it to offer a range of banking services to customers. To improve communication between the bank’s head office and its branches, an internal e-mail system was installed last year. With 39 branches nationwide, the bank is one of Albania’s biggest.
