Electro Bank leads again in soundness ranking

A high capital/assets ratio usually reflects a healthy business model and a good financial strength. For the seventh time in a row, France-based Electro Bank tops the soundness ranking with a ratio of 86.91%. Banco Exterior in Venezuela, a new entry to the Top 25, comes in second at 82.89%. Another new arrival, Banco Severo-Vostochny Alliance in Russia, is ranked third with 56.86%.

The best profit on capital was recorded by Ashikaga Bank, a Japanese institution that tops the ranking, reaching an outstanding profitability of 191.84%. Banco BBM jumped from 14th place to second with 82.01% and Bank Maskan made its way to third place with a 66.03% ratio.

In terms of best profit on assets, the US's Franklin Resources (24.37%) leads the Top 25 ranking, which this year includes banks from 17 different countries. Banco Exterior, a new arrival in the table, comes in second with 22.87%. United National Corporation dropped down two places with a profitability of 13.5%. The number of Russian and US banks in the table has fallen from eight to five and from five to three, respectively.
