Orange has racked up more than 8mn active users of its “Max it” super app across Africa, where fellow telcos, banks and fintechs are competing to offer expanded financial services across a region where smartphone use is rising rapidly.

The French company, the fourth-largest telco in Africa by active subscribers according to data from Omdia, first launched “Max it” in November in Cameroon, Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso and Botswana, with rollout subsequently extended to Côte d’Ivoire and Tunisia in January.
