Should the UK pay financial rewards to whistleblowers?

Whistleblowing is a critical intelligence source for agencies charged with investigating and prosecuting serious financial crime. As the importance of whistleblowing in identifying and preventing wrongdoing – whether in the private or public sector – has been increasingly recognised by policy-makers, the legal protections in place to shield whistleblowers from retaliatory action have never been stronger.

However, the debate continues as to what extent whistleblowers should be incentivised to bring wrongdoing to light.
