What global risks do you need to worry about in 2024 and beyond?

Despite the “spaghetti bowl” of risk becoming more complex with the rise of ChatGPT prompting fears about widespread misinformation and disinformation, environmental risks continue to dominate the risk landscape, according to the WEF’s latest global risk report.

It’s that time of year again where 1500 global leaders across academia, business, government, the international community and civil society give us their predictions on the key global risks the world is facing in the next one, two and 10 years.

Misinformation and disinformation jumped to the number one risk in a two-year timeframe for the very first time in The World Economic Forum’s (WEF’s) 2024 Global Risks Perception Survey (GRPS), in large part due to the growing proliferation of large language models like ChatGPT and rising geopolitical tensions. But over a 10-year timeframe, the four most severe risks highlighted were climate-related: extreme weather events, critical change to Earth systems, biodiversity loss and ecosystem collapse, and natural resource shortages.
