Digital technologies are reshaping the dynamics of competition and the geopolitical balance of power. Even in central Asia, an IT industry is quickly emerging, says Anatoly Motkin, president of StrategEast, an institution working to develop Eurasia’s digital economy.

Despite slower progress in Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, the IT industries in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan have been growing rapidly for the past several years. This growth looks set to continue, according to a recent StrategEast report, which it describes as the first in-depth study examining the central Asian region’s export-oriented IT sector.
