Belize's banks show highest return-on-assets ratio in Central America

Belize’s small banking market might be represented by only three lenders in The Banker’s Top 100 Central American banks, but the country's banks show the highest return-on-assets ratio in Central America, at 2.67%.

Panama has the largest banking sector in the region, with 39 lenders included in The Banker’s Top 100 Central American banks, and combined assets of $78.1bn. But while Panamanian banks’ profitability ratios are solid, they are not outstanding by regional standards, and the country’s average return-on-assets ratio is 1.64%.
