Nordea

Nordea is the leading financial services group in the Nordic and Baltic sea region and not only does it have 11 million customers and 1205 branches throughout the region, but it is also a leader in internet banking, with 3.8 million e-customers. Nordea has been a pioneer in internet banking and continues to expand its internet banking products and services, with 500,000 new e-customers in 2003. Last year, the number of customer log-ons was 130 million and the number of e-banking payments was 146 million. This means that 5.5 invoices are paid every second, 24 hours a day in Nordea’s Netbank, strengthening Nordea’s position as the world’s most widely used internet bank. The bank also has 2060 contracts with merchants using direct e-payments, of which 730 were present at the electronic marketplace called Solo Market. Nordea’s e-commerce services, which have both retail and corporate applications, also include e-invoicing, e-identification and signature and e-salary. With its substantial growth in e-customers in markets that already offer some of the most sophisticated retail technology in the world, Nordea justly deserves the award this year for best use of IT in retail banking.
