Russell Horwitz

Russell Horwitz, chief of staff – Goldman Sachs

John Rogers, Goldman Sachs’s current chief of staff, is stepping back from some of his responsibilities and handing over his role to his former deputy, Russell Horwitz. Mr Rogers joined Goldman Sachs in 1994 and served as chief of staff to four of the bank’s CEOs. Prior to that, he worked in advisory roles in US politics under presidents Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan and George HW Bush. 

During his career at the bank, Mr Rogers has been perceived as wielding substantial influence over its executive management and board of directors. He will continue at Goldman Sachs in his new role as executive vice president and secretary to the board of directors. 

Mr Horwitz originally joined Goldman Sachs in 2004 and rose to partner in 2012. Prior to that, he served at the US Securities and Exchange Commission. He left the bank in 2020, and was most recently chief global affairs officer at US-based fund manager Citadel. 

As chief of staff, Mr Horwitz will manage operations in Goldman Sachs’s executive office, overseeing corporate communications, government and regulatory affairs, and corporate engagements.

Irfan Hussain

Irfan Hussain, chief information officer – London Stock Exchange Group

London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) has named Irfan Hussain as chief information officer (CIO). He will succeed current CIO, Tony McCarthy, who will retire in early 2024. Based in New York, Mr Hussain will join the group’s executive committee and report to David Schwimmer, LSEG’s chief executive. 

Mr Hussain joins LSEG from Goldman Sachs, where he currently serves as a partner and chief operating and strategy officer for engineering. He began his career at the bank in 1994 as an analyst in foreign exchange technology. He was promoted to managing director in 2006 and became a partner in 2014.

Nehal Udeshi

Nehal Udeshi, head of securities finance – BNY Mellon

BNY Mellon has appointed former Goldman Sachs veteran Nehal Udeshi as head of its New York-based securities finance business. She joins the bank after a 17-year career at Goldman Sachs, where she was most recently co-head of global cross-asset financing within its global markets and banking division.

Prior to that, Ms Udeshi was part of the bank’s structuring and marketing group for global liquidity products and was also involved in structured funding for money markets.

Tommy Leung

Tommy Leung, head of south Asia – HSBC Global Private Banking

HSBC has appointed Tommy Leung as head of its global private banking arm for south Asia. He will report to Siew Meng Tan, regional head of HSBC global private banking, Asia-Pacific, and Kai Zhang, head of wealth and personal banking, south Asia.

Mr Leung brings more than two decades of private and investment banking experience. He joins from UBS, where he most recently served as a managing director, and Asia-Pacific co-head of global family and institutional wealth. Prior to that, he held various senior positions at UBS, including as Asia-Pacific head of active portfolio advisory within its private bank and Asia-Pacific head of credit sales for its investment bank.

Tim Murphy

Tim Murphy, senior managing director, and Alex Kozak, managing director – Guggenheim Securities

Guggenheim Securities, the investment banking division of New York-headquartered financial services firm Guggenheim Partners, has appointed Tim Murphy (pictured) and Alex Kozak as senior managing director and managing director, respectively. They will serve within its telecom and digital investment banking practice, and will focus on advising companies within the telecommunications bandwidth infrastructure sector. 

Mr Murphy joins the firm after a 12-year stint at independent investment bank Bank Street Group, where he helped execute more than 70 transactions across the telecom sector. Mr Kozak also joins from the investment banking team at Bank Street and brings more than a decade of experience across a variety of product areas.
