Amy Doherty, chief information officer and vice-president of information and technology solutions – World Bank

World Bank president Ajay Banga announced on September 8 the appointment of Amy Doherty as chief information officer (CIO) and vice-president of information and technology solutions. In this role, Ms Doherty will lead the information management and technology portfolio, linked tightly with the institution’s strategic direction and mission. 

“Amy Doherty has demonstrated leadership in technology, transformation and information security in both the public and private sector, and I am very pleased to have her join the World Bank Group as CIO,” said Mr Banga. “Technology continues to push the frontier of [what’s] possible forward just as the World Bank is evolving to be a better bank. [Ms Doherty] has a skill, and will play a critical role, to ensure the bank is capturing the promise of the former to advance the latter.”

Société Générale has appointed Francis Donnat as group general secretary, as of October 1. He will be a member of the group management committee. Mr Donnat will replace Gilles Briatta, who will pursue other projects outside the bank. Currently a partner at Baker & McKenzie, Mr Donnat’s strong knowledge of French and European institutions and private sector players, as well as his in-depth legal expertise, will be valuable assets in the implementation of the group’s strategy.

Bruno Delas will become group chief information officer (CIO), as well as remain a member of the group management committee. He will replace Carlos Gonçalves, who will pursue new professional endeavours outside of the group. Delas’s main mission will consist in defining and steering the transversal IT strategy axes, as well as setting standards and policies to foster mutualisation, as well as strengthen the security and the operational efficiency of the group’s platforms.

Laurent Stricher will replace Mr Delas as head of innovation, technologies and IT, and remains CIO of SG Retail Banking Network.

 

Francesca Speroni, team leader and deputy head of private banking – EFG Private Bank

EFG has announced the appointment of Francesca Speroni as team leader and deputy head of private banking of EFG Private Bank, the UK private banking arm of EFG international.

EFG is committed to growing its private banking business in the UK and is therefore expanding its hub and booking centre in this strategically important market. As part of these efforts, EFG is scaling up its UK team and has already hired a number of professionals to help drive its future success in the region.

Ms Speroni joins EFG from Credit Suisse, where she was a managing director and served as team leader UK for more than five years. Prior to that, she was director of the family office team at Barclays and previously also worked for Rothschild. Going forward, Ms Speroni will deliver private banking and investment services to UK and international clients from EFG’s London office.

Brown Brothers Harriman (BBH) has appointed Sarah Holmes as global head of securities lending. In this role, Ms Holmes will oversee product evolution, client engagement, and trading for securities lending. Coming from a role in technology, Ms Holmes is focused on advancing BBH’s securities lending technology and data capabilities.

Ms Holmes joined BBH in 1995 and previously worked as chief administrative officer within BBH’s systems and technology discipline. She has also held senior client service positions within the investor services relationship excellence and client service disciplines, and served as a senior human resources business partner at BBH.

Sumanta Panigrahi has been appointed as Asia-Pacific head of trade and working capital solutions (TWCS) at Citi, based in Hong Kong. In this role, he will be responsible for working with Citi’s regional clients, product and country business partners to grow the TWCS business in Asia and continue to deliver Citi’s global product capabilities to clients even more effectively. 

Asia-Pacific continues to be an important region for the TWCS business, and Citi is focused on growing its business and market share among its corporate and commercial bank clients.

Thus De Silva has been appointed as Asia-Pacific head of commercial cards at Citi, based in Singapore. In this role, which he has held on an interim basis since 2022, Mr De Silva will continue to be responsible for driving growth for Asia clients across the market network, as well as pioneering innovative business-to-business flows and continuing to enhance the travel and expense proposition. 

He will also have the critical task of ensuring exemplary client experience in all client segments, as Citi continues to grow and invest in its Asia commercial cards business.
