Josh Frydenberg, Australia and New Zealand chairman – Goldman Sachs

Goldman Sachs has appointed former Australian treasurer Josh Frydenberg as chairman of its Australian and New Zealand business. He will succeed Christian Johnson who retired in March. 

Mr Frydenburg joined Goldman as a senior regional advisor for the Asia-Pacific region in July 2022, after he lost his parliamentary seat in an Australian federal election in May that year. He will retain this role alongside his expanded duties. 

Prior to joining Goldman, Mr Frydenberg had a 13-year political career as a member of Australia’s parliament since 2010. In addition, he served as the Australian Liberal Party’s deputy leader between 2018 and 2022. He served in government as environment and energy minister, before becoming the country’s federal treasurer in 2018.

Samuel Huen, global head of legal and regulatory compliance – Bank of Singapore

Bank of Singapore, the private banking arm of Singapore-based OCBC Bank, has appointed former UBS executive Samuel Huen as global head of legal and regulatory compliance. In this role, Mr Huen will assume responsibility for managing legal and regulatory risks across Bank of Singapore and its subsidiaries in Hong Kong, Dubai, Luxembourg, the UK, Malaysia and the Philippines.

Mr Huen joins Bank of Singapore after an 18-year career at UBS, where he was most recently a member of its Singaporean management committee and head of its legal affairs within the city-state. At the same time, he was also the head of legal, responsible for UBS’s global wealth management business in South Asia and Japan, including its credit and products legal teams in Hong Kong.

Yves-Marie Gayet, global head of international trade and transaction banking – Crédit Agricole

Crédit Agricole has appointed Yves-Marie Gayet as its new global head of international trade and transaction banking. He will report to Jean-François Balaÿ, deputy CEO of Crédit Agricole’s corporate and investment banking business, and succeed Laurent Chenain, who became head of the unit’s corporate and leveraged finance business in June.   

Mr Gayet joined Crédit Agricole in 2019 as senior country officer for Brazil and was promoted to head of Latin America in 2021. Prior to that, he spent nearly seven years as executive director for the French Chamber of Commerce in Brazil. He began his career in 1991 at French rival Société Générale’s internal audit office, eventually rising to deputy head of its global commodities markets business in 2008.

Tom Vignon, managing director and senior member, financial sponsors group EMEA – Barclays

Barclays has appointed two new senior hires to its corporate and investment banking business. Christian Oberle, a former JPMorgan banker, will become head of its Americas financial sponsors group based in New York. Mr Oberle brings close to two decades of experience in investment banking. In his previous role as a managing director at JPMorgan, he advised on transactions that included Apollo’s acquisitions of Univar and Arconic, Advent’s acquisition of McAfee, and the acquisition and subsequent sale of Howden by KPS. 

In addition, Barclays has hired Tom Vignon as a managing director and senior member of its financial sponsors group for the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. He joins after a 20-year career at Credit Suisse, where he most recently served as head of financial sponsors group EMEA. He has advised on transactions including Cinven’s acquisitions of Envu and Warburg Pincus, as well as Apax’s acquisition of TMNL, and Lottomatica’s recent initial public offering.
