Faced with a shortage of funds, Nepal Investment Bank (NIB) showed its innovative capacity by issuing debentures. Its credit portfolio has been optimised in relation to its capital base and that has enabled it to earn a good stream of interest income. Its NPL ratio, at 2.47%, is one of the lowest in the country and compares favourably with the national average of 25%.

The bank is concentrating on low-cost and non-interest bearing deposits to reduce its cost of funds and optimise profits. “NIB endeavours to demonstrate that a Nepali bank can constantly provide top quality customer service and be the best in Nepal,” says chairman and CEO Prithivi Bahadur Pande.
