HSBC this month became the world’s first bank to successfully test quantum key distribution to protect a foreign exchange (FX) trading scenario against hacking by quantum computers. Using its trading terminal HSBC AI Markets, the bank safeguarded a simulated €30m trade from euros to US dollars. 

The bank says it will share insights about its quantum cyber security approach with other banks to help counter the threat to the security of the banking system worldwide by future quantum computers.
