Top 1000 World Banks 2020

The results of this year’s Top 1000 World Bank ranking must be regarded as the calm before the storm. The good news of 2020 – the 50th anniversary of the ranking – is that the global banking industry is broadly in good shape.

The Banker has examined for the first time, in detail how well banks in 20 of the world’s leading economies performed in the past year, and in what shape they were in entering the coronavirus period, using additional data from The Banker Database.

In addition to our annual tables, this year we also include tables highlighting highest tax paid as percentage of income, top 10 banks with the highest non-performing loan ratios and top 15 economies with the lowest return on assets.
